Communications Manager

In support of the mission of 13 Hands Equine Rescue, the Communications Manager is responsible for expanding awareness, increasing fundraising, and strengthening community engagement, through strategic storytelling and multi-channel communications. This role leads the development and execution of social media, email marketing, donor communications, digital campaigns, and website content to grow visibility, deepen engagement, through strategic storytelling and multi-channel communications.

The Communications Manager serves as the primary steward of the organization’s public voice and brand across digital platforms while helping translate the daily work of the rescue into compelling stories that inspire action.

This position reports to Colleen Schropfer for day-to-day direction and approvals. Marylou will be copied on communications requiring executive input or review.

The position is hybrid but requires time spent at the rescue to gather original content, including photography, video, interviews, and behind-the-scenes storytelling to ensure authentic and timely communications. Periodic weekend days for events, rescue emergencies or in- person team meetings.

There is a computer provided at the office, but it is not necessary to be in the office if you have your own laptop.

Responsibilities include

• Develop communication strategies with leadership to support annual fundraising priorities.
• Draft messaging independently while coordinating approvals and implementation through completion.
• Create GivingGrid campaigns and storytelling content designed to generate direct donations.
• Support stewardship initiatives that deepen donor relationships and increase retention.
• Assist in developing print communications including direct mail appeals, impact updates, postcards, and donor acknowledgements.
• Ensure social media channels link to fundraising and that donations via social media go up at least 20%
