L.A. Writers' Lab

Marketing Coordinator (part-time, remote)

Remote, US$52,000-$62,400Posted 2 days ago

Job Description

About the role

You'll help more writers discover Alan Watt's workshops and sign up for them. Alan Watt is a bestselling novelist and the founder of LA Writers' Lab (now alanwatt.com), which runs online workshops such as The 90-Day Novel®, The 90-Day Memoir®, Rewrite Master Class, and Story Day. You'll run the email promos, keep a weekly count of sign-ups for every class, keep the blog flowing and turn its readers into students. Claude (AI) drafts much of the routine work, so this role is about judgment, follow-through and numbers, not volume.

What you'll need

Must have

  • A strong writer and editor who can match a warm, personal voice (Alan's)
  • Comfortable with numbers: you read email and website reports and keep a tidy spreadsheet
  • Organized and reliable with deadlines; you raise problems early
  • Experience sending email campaigns (ActiveCampaign or similar)
  • Happy working alongside AI tools: you review and improve drafts rather than write everything from scratch

Nice to have

  • WordPress and Elementor basics
  • Fluent with Claude
  • Canva
  • An interest in writing, books, or creative education

Tools you'll use

ActiveCampaign (email), WooCommerce, Elementor and WordPress (orders and blog), Google Analytics, Google Sheets and Docs, Canva, YouTube Studio, Meta Business Suite, Slack and Zoom, and Claude for drafting. You'll get training on the team's own checklists and workflows.

How success is measured

Success is measured by sign-ups, not by how much gets posted.

  • Classes fill: Enrollment is tracked for every upcoming class, so any class that needs a boost is spotted early and gets the extra promotion it needs.
  • Every promotion is measurable: each email, ad and post has a tracked link or its own discount code, so its sales can be counted.
  • The blog turns readers into students: the top 50 posts each have a working call to action, and blog-to-email sign-ups rise from about 23 a month.
  • A steady rhythm: the newsletter goes out on the 1st, blog posts are scheduled 1–2 weeks ahead, and Alan gets a weekly sign-up update and a monthly email report.
